Follow that Chef !!!!

I don’t know about you, but I have always wanted to be an amazing cook. In my dreams I am the person who all of my children and friends go to for their favorite dish. It may be silly, but I would love to be the home in the neighborhood that always smells like a well-made meal even when you walk by. In my search for chef perfection I have found these incredible Chefs. Special thank you to the New York Times for making such an incredible article called: 16 Black Chefs Changing Food in America by John Eligon and Julia Moskin July 16, 2019. You haven’t seen the article?  Well here you go!

Chef #1

Nyesha Arrington

36, Los Angeles

Shaped By: Her multiracial family, especially her Korean grandmother and grandfather of black and Cherokee descent. Growing up in Los Angeles, with its unique “terroir” that blends Californian, Mexican, Chinese, Persian and many other cuisines.

“I came up in fine dining because 17-year-old me wanted to know the tradition in and out and up and down. I went down that path of France and nouvelle cuisine, which I loved. But every single kitchen I ever worked in coming up, I never saw a black woman. I had to see myself as a European male, and I assimilated a lot of those values into my cooking and my life. But now I value connection and finding the common denominator in food, because it is something that can transcend race and ethnicity and gender.”

Have you Heard????

11-year-old invents backpack to stop bullying in schools

Have you heard? Makai Samuels- Paige (who was a 6th grader at the time) invented an Anti- Bullying Backpack.  Makai was unfortunately bullied in school because of his size and height. “I’m not one of the tallest sixth-graders,” said Samuels-Paige. “I’m one of the shorter ones, so when I get picked on, it makes me feel like I’m nothing, and I want to change that,” he said.

And that he did! Makai Samuels- Paige patented a backpack that has 2 camera, WIFI, GPS, & Walkie- Talkie system. This little genius has blazed the trail and found a way to solve a problem plaguing children all over the world.

Thank you, Makai Samuels- Paige for pushing past opposition and using your genius for good!

How to Make Easy Pipe Cleaner Finger Puppets

Start by wrapping a pipe cleaner around your finger 3-4 times, leaving half of the pipe cleaner unwrapped.

Fold the straight end of the pipe cleaner to make one ear, then another, securing in the middle.

Glue a matching pom-pom over the part of the pipe cleaner where the ears intersect. This also secures your puppet in place.

Attach google eyes. And you’re done!!

Back to School Prep

Parents and Guardians,

2020 has opened new doors and introduce us to new skills especially when it comes to schooling. But don’t fear, there are great resources out here in place to help parents no matter what path this school year takes them.

Check out the following tips from care.com

Prepare mentally

1. Set your kids’ sleep schedules back to “school time” two weeks before the first day of school.

2. Use an egg timer to get your kids used to focusing for specific periods of time.

3. Encourage your kids to read at least one (or one more) book before the school year begins.

4. Discuss what your kids can expect on the first day of school so they feel more prepared.

5. Ask teachers for class rosters so you can connect your kids with new classmates.

6. Talk openly with your kids about their feelings about returning to school and be ready to answer any questions.

DIRECTIONS

  1. Heat oven to 400°F. In a large bowl, whisk together the lime juice, vinegar, honey, and a pinch each salt and pepper. Add the cabbage, apple, and jalapeño and toss to coat. Let sit, tossing occasionally, until ready to serve.

  5. Heat a grill, or the oil in a large cast-iron skillet, to medium-high heat. Grill or cook the burgers until an instant-read thermometer registers 165°F, 7 to 8 minutes per side on the grill or 4 to 5 minutes per side in the skillet.
  6. Spread the buns with a touch of the Sriracha mayonnaise, then top with the burgers and slaw. Serve with the potato chips and remaining mayonnaise.

Parents Prayer: Let the Glory of the Lord Arise

Parents and Guardians,

let’s be honest, it can sometimes be difficult to stay positive and see the silver lining with everything going on.  I would like to encourage you today to tap into the positive love and glory of God with this powerful prayer.

Heavenly Father, I ask that You let the Glory of the Lord rise upon
me, according to Isaiah 60 verse 2. I ask You Lord to let Your
Glory be seen on me throughout this day and to always show the
mind of You Lord today and every day. Heavenly Father I ask that
when anyone looks upon me this day, they will see you Lord in
and around me. Let every action that I do today proclaim you Lord
in every way. In Jesus name we pray.

Amen.

Special thanks to the Prayer Book for its amazing prayers. If this prayer blesses you and your family, please let me know in the comments below!

Angels For Protection Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

I ask You to loose Your angels in great abundance in my presence, into my home, properties, buildings, and work places to protect me, guard me, and to keep out anything that is not of You, Lord Jesus.

Heavenly Father, I ask You to create a hedge of protection by loosing Your Mighty Warring angels around me, my home, work places and every place that I set my feet on this day to protect me from any evil or harm. In Jesus Christ Holy Name we pray.

Amen!

How to improve your Environment- Part 2

If you would like to be an active part of your community’s growth and revitalization, check out the following ideas.

Environment

  1. Choose a family “energy watchdog” to shut off lights, television, and dripping sinks when not in use.
  2. Switch your current Internet home page to an energy-saving one, such as Google’s “Blackle”, and turn down the computer screen brightness level as well. (It’s unhealthy for both the environment and your eyes.)
  3. Create a children’s nature garden. Create a path, label plants and trees, and schedule guided tours.
  1. Purchase recycled products as opposed to generic ones.
  2. When buying food or drinks of any kind, it is better to stick to a large jug or tub as opposed to a collection of individually packaged goods.
